Remembrance
St Mary’s Lydiard Tregoze
Due to St Mary’s location and proximity to the walled garden in Lydiard Park, the Royal British Legion organise a ‘Garden of Remembrance’ each year during the month of November. Coaches of visitors and most schools in thearea along with many visitors both local and from further afield visit the memorial garden laid out with remembrance crosses, poppies etc. St Mary’s leadership team has always held a short memorial ‘service’ at 2pm daily in the garden – a prayer or reading followed by silence.
Over the last year we have planned to have poppies coming from the tower into the churchyard which has resulted in nearly two hundred hand-made, knitted and crocheted poppies forming an arch through which visitors and worshippers walk into the church. The display of remembrance is ‘lighter’ than many other similar installations with the poppies appearing to ‘float’ in the air, both poignant and beautiful.
The poppies will remain until around 25th November 2024.
